كما أكد مسؤولون إسرائيليون، مطلع الأسبوع الماضي، استعداد الدولة العبرية لرفع مستوى التمثيل في المفاوضات غير المباشرة الجارية مع سوريا بوساطة تركية، مشيرين إلى أنّ ثمة دلالة حقيقية على تقدم عملية المفاوضات عندما يبدأ الجانبان إجراء محدثات مباشرة.
إلا أن صحيفة «جيروزاليم بوست» نقلت في موقعها على شبكة الانترنت، عن مسؤولين وصفتهم بالمطلعين على سير المحادثات، توقعهم رفض سوريا إجراء محادثات مباشرة خلال الشهر الحالي، خلافاً لما ذكره مسؤول في الحكومة التركية بأن جولة رابعة من المحادثات ستعقد في أواخر الشهر الحالي، وسترمي، بحسب قوله، إلى البدء بمحادثات مباشرة.
إلى ذلك، أعرب المدير السابق لوزارة الخارجية الإسرائيلية آلون ليئيل، في مقابلة مع صحيفة «صانداي تلغراف» البريطانية، عن اعتقاده بأن سوريا مستعدة لقطع روابطها مع إيران في حال حصلت على دعم مالي وعسكري من الولايات المتحدة، مشيراً إلى أنّ الرئيس السوري بشار الأسد «منفتح بشكل متزايد على اتفاق لإضعاف التأثير الإيراني في منطقة الشرق الأوسط».
واعتبر ليئيل أنّ «آفاق التوصل إلى اتفاق سلام مع سوريا يتنامى، لكنه لن يُنجز قبل انتخاب رئيس جديد للولايات المتحدة، كما أن السوريين لا يطالبون باستعادة مرتفعات الجولان فقط، ويريدون أيضاً تغييراً في واشنطن ينهي عزلتهم الدولية وضمانات بوجود بديل في حال اشترطت عليهم الابتعاد عن إيران».
