سجلت ثقة المستهلكين الأميركيين تراجعاً من أعلى قمتها في عام خلال القراءة الأولية للمسح الشهري الذي تجريه “جامعة ميشيغن” في آناربر بالتعاون مع وكالة “رويترز”، في ظل قلق من الظروف الإقتصادية الراهنة. وكانت قراءة المؤشر قد تراجعت إلى 75,7 نقطة، بالمقارنة مع 76,2 نقطة في آذار (مارس)، مخالفة توقعات المحللين التي انتظرت ارتفاعا نحو 76,4 نقطة. وقد تراجعت مستويات التفاؤل مع ارتفاع بأقل من المتوقع للوظائف المضافة خلال آذار، فضلا عن تراجع الأسهم خلال الأسبوعين الماضيين، واقتراب أسعار البنزين من مستوى أربع دولارات للغالون الواحد. وطبقا لبيانات وزارة العمل فقد أضاف الإقتصاد الأميركي أكثر من 600 ألف وظيفة هذا العام، لكن تباطؤ وتيرة النمو دون مستوى 200 ألف إلى 120 ألف وظيفة فقط في آذار ترك بعض الأثر السلبي. وعلى الرغم من تحرك مستويات الإنفاق الشخصي بشكل جيد ومعقول كما يرى بعض المحللين، إلا انه لا يوجد زخم في هذا التحرك يدفع النمو الإقتصادي الى مستويات عالية.
