تعهد الرئيس باراك أوباما في مؤتمر صحفي عقده بالبيت الأبيض، الثلاثاء الماضي، أن تواصل بلاده ملاحقة المتطرفين، وذلك بعد عمليتين نفذتهما القوات الخاصة الأميركية في الصومال وليبيا نهاية الأسبوع الفائت أدت إحداهما إلى اعتقال القيادي المفترض في القاعدة أبو أنس الليبي ولكنه رفض التعليق على شرعية العملية في طرابلس.
وقال أوباما خلال مؤتمر صحافي في البيت الأبيض «ضربنا النواة المركزية لتنظيم القاعدة الذي كان يعمل في البدء بين أفغانستان وباكستان. ولكن الآن، توجد مجموعات إقليمية بعضها مرتبط بشكل علني بالقاعدة أو بهذه العقيدة في مناطق أخرى وتتمتع باستقلالية ذاتية»، مسميا إفريقيا من بين الأماكن التي يمكن لهذه المجموعات أن تختبئ فيها. وأكد أوباما «سوف يتوجب علينا مواصلة التصدي لهذه المجموعات. ولكن هناك فرق بين ملاحقة الإرهابيين وأن ندخل في حروب». وأشاد الرئيس الأميركي بالعمليتين في ليبيا والصومال، معتبرا انهما جسدتا «القدرات والتفاني والحرفية النادرة لعناصر قواتنا المسلحة».
ورداً على سؤال حول شرعية اعتقال أبو أنس الليبي بالنسبة للقانون الدولي، رفض أوباما الرد على السؤال. وقال «نعلم أن أبو أنس الليبي ساعد على التخطيط وتنفيذ مؤامرات أدت إلى مقتل مئات الأشخاص من بينهم العديد من الأميركيين. ونحن لدينا أدلة دامغة بهذا الخصوص. وسوف يحال إلى القضاء».
