وسط الجدل حول قرار الرئيس دونالد ترامب بحظر دخول اللاجئين والمسافرين من سبع دول إسلامية إلى الولايات المتحدة، أكد رئيس بلدية ديترويت، مايك داغن أن ديترويت «مدينة مرحبة» بالمهاجرين، مشيراً إلى أن هناك 50 عائلة من اللاجئين السوريين استقرت مؤخراً في غرب المدينة.
وجاء كلام داغن خلال كلمة ألقاها في منتدى للحزب الديمقراطي عقد السبت الماضي في «جامعة وين ستايت» بمدينة ديترويت، مؤكدا أن هذه «العائلات قوبلت بالترحاب والإبتسامات في مدينتنا».
وكان داغن قد أعلن بداية العام الماضي أن بلدية ديترويت ستقوم باستقبال 50 عائلة من اللاجئين السوريين وغيرهم في المدينة سنوياً، على مدى الأعوام الثلاثة القادمة.
