قال محامي بلدية ديترويت إن الإصلاحات التي نفذتها شرطة المدينة خلال السنوات الماضية أدت إلى تراجع حاد في حجم الدعاوى المرفوعة ضد ممارسات عناصر الدائرة.
وقال مستشار البلدية القانوني ملفين هولويل لهيئة مفوضي الشرطة إن الدعاوى القضائية المتعلقة بسوء سلوك الشرطة انخفضت من 105 قضايا في عام 2012 إلى 40 قضية في عام 2016 حيث دفعت البلدية تعويضات للمتضررين بحوالي 4.9 مليون دولار مقارنة بـ7.3 مليون دولار في عام 2015 أي بانخفاض سنوي نسبته 31.9 بالمئة، مؤكداً أن توفير هذا المبلغ سيتيح للبلدية إنفاقه على الخدمات المقدمة لسكان المدينة.
ويأتي هذا التراجع إثر اعتماد شرطة ديترويت سياسات جديدة لضبط استخدام العنف من قبل عناصرها وإخضاعهم لتدريبات إضافية، إلى جانب مراقبة العناصر الذين يتسببون عادة بالمشاكل.
