ديربورن – طالما كانت بلدية مدينة ديربورن ومحكمتها الـ«19» على نقيض، حتى تسلم القاضي سام سلامة رئاسة المحكمة التي تضم ثلاثة قضاة. فمع فوز سلامة الذي ربح انتخابات صاخبة في تشرين الثاني (نوفمبر) الماضي ضد القاضي السابق ريتشارد وايغونيك، بدأت العلاقة بين البلدية والمحكمة تشهد انفراجا ملحوظاً تجلى بقرار المجلس البلدي في ١٦ نيسان (أبريل) الماضي بإلغاء ديون بذمة المحكمة تقدر بحوالي ٨٣ ألف دولار وذلك لمساعدة المحكمة في سد عجز سنوي بحوالي 355 الف دولار، فيما سوي باقي العجز وفق حسابات دفترية.

وقال مسؤولون ان البلدية ليست في مسيس الحاجة للمبلغ الباقي (271 الف دولار) كون المحكمة رفدت خزينة البلدية بأموال اضافية عبر الغرامات والرسوم، وقد جاء التصويت على القرار بإجماع خمسة أعضاء وتغيب العضوين نانسي هبارد ومارك شوشانيان. وكان المجلس تلقى طلباً في اذار (مارس) من رئيس المحكمة سام سلامة ومديرتها شارون لانغين بخصوص تسوية هذه الديون. وأرفق طلب الالتماس بمذكرة شرحت أسباب العجز المالي وبأنه متراكم من عهود سابقة. وتعهد سلامة ولانغين بتطوير اداء المحكمة بحيث تحقق عوائد أكبر وفق إدارة رشيدة.
وجاء فوز سلامة في الانتخابات الماضية بفضل الصوت العربي ودعم رئيس البلدية جاك أورايلي، لينضم سلامة للقاضيين وليم هالتغرين ومارك سومرز تحت شعار «محكمة واحدة بثلاثة قضاة، لا مبنى واحد بثلاث محاكم». ولاحقاً عينت محكمة ميشيغن العليا سلامة رئيسا للمحكمة 19.
