دورهام – اكتشف علماء آثار بريطانيون هيكلاً عظمياً لشاب عاش قبل ثلاثة آلاف عام في السودان، تبين أنه كان مصابا بالسرطان. وتعد هذه أقدم حالة إصابة بالسرطان، ما يؤكد أن أول حالة إصابة بالمرض لم تكن قبل ألفي عام كما كان يعتقد العلماء.
ويعدّ هذا الكشف أقدم دليل علمي على إصابة الإنسان بمرض السرطان الذي ينتقل من مكان إلى آخر في الجسم، وأضافوا أنهم يأملون أن يفضي هذا الاكتشاف إلى التعرف على معلومات جديدة عن هذا المرض الأكثر انتشاراً وفتكاً بالمرضى المصابين به.
ويقول الباحثون من «جامعة دورهام» البريطانية والمتحف البريطاني أنهم اكشتفوا، بعد فحص جثمان الشاب، دليلاً يؤكد أن الأورام السرطانية وجدت وانتشرت في جميع أنـحاء جسم الإنسـان منـذ آلاف السنين.
وتوصل العلماء إلى هذا الاكتشاف بعد تصوير الهيكل العظمي بواسطه الأشعة والمسح المجهري الالكتروني، مما سمح بإعطاء صورة واضحة عن إنتشار مرض السرطان في عظام الترقوة والكتف وأعلى الذراعين، والفقرات والأضلاع والحوض وعظام الفخذ.
ووضع العلماء فرضية أن يكون استنشاق دخان الحطب أو العوامل الجينية أو الإصابة بمرض معد، أحد أسباب إصابة هذا الرجل بمرض السرطان. وقالت ميشيلا باندير، وهي طالبة دراسات عليا في «جامعة دورهام» والمشرفة على البحث إن «هذا الاكتشاف يساعد في فهم تطور وتاريخ الأمراض الحديثة»، مضيفة أنه بالرغم من أن مرض السرطان يعتبر من أكثر الأمراض المميتة، إلا أنه غائب نسبياً من أبحاث علماء الآثار، الأمر الذي أعطى انطباعاً أن هذا المرض ناتج عن نمط الحياة العصرية التي نعيشها اليوم.
ونشرت نتائج هذا البحث في الدورية العلمية «بلوس وان» الاثنين الماضي، وهي تؤكد أن مرض السرطان ليس مرضاً حديثاً وعصرياً بل أصيب به العديد من الأشخاص القاطنين بالقرب من نهر النيل في العصور القديمة. ووفقاً لمركز أبحاث السرطان التابع لمنظمة الصحة العالمية فإن حوالي 14 مليون شخص أصيب بهذا المرض في عام 2012، كما أنه من المتوقع أن يصل عدد المصابين به حوالي 22 مليون شخص خلال الـ 20 سنة المقبلة.
