واشنطن – تبحث هيئة الاتصالات الفدرالية في طرق لإلغاء مجهودات سابقة بدأتها في 2013 تهدف لمنح شركات الطيران خيار تركيب معدات خلوية وخدمات هاتفية أخرى لاستخدامها خلال الرحلات.
ولا يحبذ رئيس الهيئة في الإدارة الأميركية الحالية، أجيب باي، خطط سلفه في هذا الصدد، إذ قال إن هذا المشروع «لم يتم التخطيط له بصورة جيدة».
وقال باي، الذي عين في المنصب في نهاية شباط (فبراير) على رأس الهيئة الفدرالية للاتصالات، «إن سحب هذا المقترح نهائيا سيكون نصراً للأميركيين، الذين هم مثلي يحبذون الهدوء على ارتفاع 30 ألف قدم».
ومنعت الولايات المتحدة منذ 1991 الاتصالات الهاتفية أثناء الطيران خشية تداخل الاتصالات بين الطيارين والمراقبين الجويين.
لكن الهيئة الفدرالية للاتصالات تبنت سنة 2013 مقترحا للسماح لشركات الطيران باعتماد شبكات هاتفية جوالة لتمكين المسافرين من إرسال رسائل نصية قصيرة وأيضاً إجراء اتصالات.
وقال باي إن المقترح الذي كان قد لاقى معارضة نواب وطيارين، وضع وفق «تصميم سيء»، مشيراً إلى أنه أصدر مذكرة «للتخلي» عنه نهائياً.
وأضاف «لا أعتقد أن المضي في هذا المشروع يصب في المصلحة العامة»، مؤكداً أنه يؤيد موقف الطيارين والمضيفين.
كما أشارت استطلاعات رأي متعددة إلى أن معظم راكبي الطائرات، وخاصة الذين يسافرون جواً بصورة متكررة، يعارضون السماح بالمكالمات الهاتفية على متن الطائرات.
ولن يؤثر هذا الإلغاء على القوانين الحالية التي تسمح للركاب باستخدام هواتفهم المحمولة أو أجهزتهم الإلكترونية أثناء الطيران، ولكن مع تشغيل وضعية «الطيران» التي تمنع الأجهزة من الاتصال بالإنترنت أو الشبكات الخلوية.
