لندن – رغم أننا قد نصاب بالإنفلونزا في أي وقت من السنة، إلا أن مخاطر الإصابة تتضاعف خلال «موسم الإنفلونزا» الذي يمتد بين الخريف والربيع.
ويمكن للأشخاص محاولة تجنب الإصابة بالمرض، عبر غسل اليدين والنظافة العامة، حيث يمكن أن يبقى الفيروس على قيد الحياة على الأسطح لمدة تصل إلى 24 ساعة.
وتشمل بعض أعراض الإنفلونزا النموذجية آلاما حادة في العضلات والمفاصل، وألماً في العينين وضعفاً وتعباً شديدين، بالإضافة إلى ارتفاع الحرارة في بعض الأحيان.
ويمكن أن تكون مصحوبة بأعراض تشبه نزلة البرد، مثل الصداع والتهاب الحلق وسيلان الأنف والسعال. وقد يعاني الأطفال من أعراض الإسهال والقيء المصحوبة مع الإنفلونزا، وهذا الأمر لا يحصل عادة عند الكبار.
وفي معظم الحالات، لن تحتاج إلى عناية طبية لعلاج الإنفلونزا، حيث يجب الحصول على الكثير من الراحة وشرب السوائل، وتجنب الاتصال مع الآخرين.
ومع ذلك، تقول هيئة الخدمات الصحية الوطنية (NHS) في بريطانيا، إنه يجب زيارة الطبيب في الحالات التالية: في حال كنت بعمر الـ65 أو أكثر، الحمل، وعندما تكون مصاباً بمرض السكري وأمراض القلب والرئة والكلى أو مرض عصبي، أو عندما يكون لديك جهاز مناعي ضعيف وتعاني من ضيق في التنفس مع سعال يحتوي دماً، وكذلك عند تدهور الحالة المرضية وعدم التحسن خلال أسبوع.
