واشنطن – أعلنت إدارة الرئيس الأميركي باراك أوباما أن مبعوثه الخاص إلى أفغانستان وباكستان ريتشارد هولبروك توفي الاثنين الماضي عن 69 عاما بعد أن أجريت له جراحة لإصلاح تمزق في الشريان الأبهر (الأورطي) يوم السبت الماضي.
وكانت وزارة الخارجية الأميركية أعلنت السبت الماضي أن هولبروك يرقد في حالة حرجة في المستشفى بعد إجراء العملية الجراحية. وسقط هولبروك مغشيا عليه داخل مكتبه في وزارة الخارجية بعد ظهر الجمعة الماضي ونقل إلى وحدة العناية المركزة بمستشفى “جامعة جورج واشنطن”.
وعيّن هولبروك مبعوثا خاصا إلى أفغانستان وباكستان عندما تولى الرئيس باراك أوباما السلطة عام 2009، وقام برحلات متعددة إلى المنطقة خلال العامين اللذين كان فيهما المبعوث الخاص لوزارة الخارجية.
وساعد هولبروك الذي عمل سفيرا لبلاده في الأمم المتحدة ولدى ألمانيا أيضا في التوسط في اتفاقية دايتون عام 1995 التي أنهت حرب منطقة البلقان.
وتشكل وفاة هولبروك خسارة فادحة للإدارة الأميركية نظرا لأنه كان “رجل أوباما في أفغانستان”، مشيرا إلى أن وفاته “تأتي في ظرف صعب” بالنسبة للرئيس الأميركي الذي يستعد لعقد سلسلة من الاجتماعات بهدف مراجعة سياسته في أفغانستان. وفقد أوباما بوفاة هولبروك “عينا ساهرة على المصالح الأميركية في أفغانستان” باعتباره كان “رجل العمليات الأمنية والسياسية” هناك وباعتباره أيضا سياسيا مخضرما ظل يمثل صلة الوصل بين الرئيس الأميركي ونظيره الأفغاني حامد كرزاي.
