اعتبر الرئيس الأميركي باراك أوباما، أن طريقة نظيره الروسي فلاديمير بوتين في إظهار الجدية والملل خلال لقاءات القمة بينهما ليست سوى «ألاعيب» سياسية لتعزيز صورته في بلاده.
لكن أوباما قال في مقاطع من مقابلة مع قناة «أن بي سي» إن المظاهر يمكن أن تكون خادعة أحياناً. وأشار إلى أنه «في الحقيقة عندما نكون في اجتماع نتبادل الكثير من الأحاديث وهناك أيضاً الكثير من الفكاهة والكثير من التنازلات من الجانبين»، مؤكداً أن العلاقة بين الرئيسين «ليست فاترة إطلاقاً».
وأكد أوباما أن بوتين يعامله «باحترام كبير دائماً»، لافتاً إلى أنه بالرغم من الخلافات في الأشهر الأخيرة بين البيت الأبيض والكرملين، يدرك بوتين الحاجة إلى العمل مع واشنطن. وأضاف أن الرئيس الروسي «لديه أسلوبه بالتأكيد الموجه إلى الرأي العام، ويجب أن يجلس براحة وأن يظهر وكأنه يشعر ببعض الملل خلال المحادثات المشتركة. لكنها برأيي ألاعيب سياسية ليظهر بمظهر الرجل القاسي أمام مواطنيه»، موضحاً أن «السياسيين في الولايات المتحدة لديهم أسلوب مختلف. فنحن نميل إلى الابتسام من حين لآخر».
